George: taipei times: Most of the volunteers at the camp were recruited from the OCAC's annual Overseas Compatriot Youth Summer Formosa Study Tour to Taiwan, better known as the Loveboat.

George: Loveboat is officially named the "Overseas Compatriot Youth Summer Formosa Study Tour To Taiwan". It's basically a month-long tour of Taiwan, in which students study Mandarin, caligraphy, culture, etc. It cost a few thousand NT for the summer.
In reality, it's just a month long party; clubbing and stuff. Tonsof people hook up, hence the "loveboat" nickname. It's rumored thatmany girls return from loveboat pregenant.
I also heard, although I'm not sure how accurate it is, that someparents send their children on loveboat, out of fear that their childwill marry "white". They want them to hook up with other Taiwanese.

George: The whole hooking up factor of loveboat is not as blown up to be. Sure, some of them do find a special someone which they spend most of the trip with, but there are many others who spend times with the girls/ or guys and just chill for the program. It really isnt as crazy as it is made out to be. We are asians, what kind of debauchery do you really expect?
